Innovation Hubs e Idea Hubs in the world

The Enel Innovation Hubs network is present in the main innovation ecosystems in the world such as San Francisco and Boston (USA), Tel Aviv (Israel) and the Skolkovo Technopark, a high-tech innovation commercial area just outside of Moscow, Russia). Others have established themselves in areas where we have a strong commercial presence: Madrid (Spain), which coordinates our other European centers, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Santiago (Chile).

We also have three Hub & Labs in Italy, where innovation and research are interconnected: at the Passo Marino laboratories in Catania, which are at the forefront of technological applications in the field of renewable energy; in Pisa, the capital of scientific research in Italy; and in Milan, to develop research in networks and infrastructure technologies.

We work together with venture capital funds, accelerators, incubators, universities, large industrial players and government institutions in the permanent search for new companies and small companies to collaborate with Enel, to make traditional companies more efficient and to generate industrial growth through through new business models.

The Enel Innovation Hubs network communicates to innovation ecosystems the main problems that the Group is trying to solve and provides indications on Enel's own innovation requirements. Ideas and projects are directly selected by the group's global business lines, therefore, new companies can collaborate directly with a partner who can offer solid support in the development of technological solutions and new business models.

Enel works as an industrial partner, allowing new companies, small companies and innovation communities to benefit from the Group's experience through access to laboratories, internal and external experts, plants and, above all, customers and data. Enel finances the tests and jointly developed projects and also makes the Group's own network of contacts with the main investors and sources of financing worldwide available to new companies.

Once the trial phase is complete, solutions and new business models expand internationally, making full use of plants, networks in 32 countries, and 73 million customers worldwide.

Why Open Innovability?

The term "innovability" is born from the combination of "innovation" + "sustainability". For Enel, innovation and sustainability are fundamental and interdependent: sustainability requires continuous innovation and, for innovation to be truly useful, it must be sustainable. We also believe that if we combine innovation and sustainability, we can achieve new ideas and make them come true with a positive impact for the world.

The second key concept in Enel's strategy is "Open Innovation". This is based on the belief that ideas can come from anywhere. Our goal in following this strategy is to create the best possible energy innovation ecosystem. We want to build a network of talents, ideas, technologies and resources; to drive the transition of the energy sector, helping to make it smarter, more accessible, efficient and reliable.

Why do we want to do all that? Because our ultimate business purpose is: Open Power for a brighter future. We empower sustainable progress.

And we do it specifically: in 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals that address the greatest challenges facing the world.

At Grupo Enel, we responded to this call and committed to six of the goals that focus on quality education, access to clean and affordable energy, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and decent work for all, resilient infrastructure, industrialization and innovation. sustainable, sustainable cities and communities and climate action.

These goals act as an important instrument to address our strategy towards a better future by creating shared value for all stakeholders, in particular for Enel, partners and consumers worldwide.

From our purpose and commitment, then, our open innovation platform Open Innovability arises. By definition open to all, so far it has convened a community of 400,000 active solvers, from more than 90 different countries, who have proposed nearly 4,000 solutions. Anyone can contribute by submitting their project, and everyone can participate in the challenges we launch from the site. This is because we believe that openness is the only way to create added and shared value.
