ENEL GENERACION COSTANERA WITH MORE AVAILABLE POWER FOR THE ARGENTINE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

  • The works were completed and turbine 6 was started up with a total investment of the project of 155 million dollars.

Buenos Aires, November 5, 2016- Turbine 6 of Enel Generación Costanera was synchronized within the framework of the Reconditioning Process of Steam Turbo Units covered by the Steam Turbo Units Availability Contract signed with CAMMESA.

This unit was the last machine that was part of Project TV, with a 155 million dollar investment, mainly aimed to improve the availability of all steam power units, essential for the electrical system for the possibility of operating with Fuel Oil and mainly supplying the consumption of Capital Federal and Outer Buenos Aires.

The works of Project TV started in October 2013. In January 2014, the reconditioning of the first 2 units started (TVs 1 and 2); the 6 TVs of Enel Generación Costanera were reconditioned during the Project, with a total installed power of 1.131 MW (7.3% of the total installed capacity in the Outer Buenos Aires, Litoral and Buenos Aires, and 3.3% of the total installed capacity of the country).

Reconditioning works continued for almost 3 years. Besides the maintenance works of the Facility, more than 30 different people (mostly Argentinian) were part of the works, with an average of 400 external workers all over the Project.

Antonino Ascione, head of Enel Generación en Argentina, considered that “it is a very important event, and we should also highlight the fact that, when the new synchronization of Unit 6 was performed last December 1st, all TV units were in operation and had been dispatched, a fact that hadn’t occurred for almost 7 years.

Morover, Ascione considered that this shows the strong commitment of the ENEL Group to the country in order to work on service improvement in the long run.
